What we do

Meetings Of Abertawe Centre National Trust are normally held at St Paul's Sketty Parish Centre, De La Beche Road, Sketty, Swansea, on the fourth Wednesday of the month (except for December when time and date may be modified) between October and April at 7.30 p.m.

A number of excursions occur throughout the summer months and a holiday in early autumn.

We hold an annual Spring lunch and an Autumn Lunch at a local venue.

Some of our members provide volunteer help at Pennard Car Park through the summer and also work as stewards at Dinefwr.

Recent Events

The 44th Annual General Meeting was held at St Paul's Parish Centre Sketty on 22nd February 2017. The Chairman Dr Bruce Lervy was in the chair

In his report the Chairman summarised the year's activities and concluded by thanking the members of the Committee for their support and advice.


Treasurer’s Report: Mr. Knight circulated his report and a copy would be attached to the official minutes. He confirmed that the accounts showed a surplus from which a donation would be made to a National Trust project. The accounts were approved unanimously.

Mr Mahmood Poptani was re-elected as independent auditor.

The Area Property Manager Mr. Alun Kersley-Evans was unable to attend the meeting.

The meeting closed at 8.10 pm

After refreshments, Ms Anne Thomas set us an interesting quiz. It was won jointly by Mr & Mrs Ryland, Dr Don Williams, Mr Roger Knight and Mrs Mo Ellard, who, in accordance with our convention, received the shared equivalent of two free seats on one of the day trips – but at the price of hosting next year’s quiz.



The first meeting of 2016 was held in January when Kate Elliott-Jones spoke on the war years in Swansea. Her talk was illustrated with many photographs of the devastation caused to the town by bombs..

In March Dr Bruce Lervy gave an illustrated talk on the history of Morriston.

A proposal was passed unanimously at the AGM in February 2016 and read as follows "Membership of the Abertawe Centre will be open to persons supportive of the aims of National Trust on payment of the current annual subscription to The Centre

Other meetings held early in 2016 included Kate Elliott-Jones with a talk entitled 'Keep calm and carry on', giving an illustrated account of the blitz of Swansea. In March Prof Prys Morgan gave an illustrated talk on Russian Art and religion. In the April meeting Joseph Adkin, head gardner at Aberglasny gave an account of developments at the gatdens.

A spring lunch was held in May at The Oxwich Beach Hotel. A splendid meal with approximately 40 members present was rounded off with musical entertainment by Mr John Davies

Three day trips have taken place. The trip in June was to Wycliff Court and Chepstow, that in July to Great Chalfont Court and Leacock. The August trip visited Llanerchaeron and Aberaeron.

An evening trip was taken to Aberglasny Gardens with a conducted tour with the Head Gardner, Mr Joseph Adkin

A Christmas Lunch was held in Sketty Hall with entertainment in the form of counjuring, by Rev Eirian Wyn

Also in December a strip was arranged to a performance of Mary Poppins at The Millennium Centre Cardiff.

In January 2017 Dr Dan Foreman (Swansea University) spoke on: Crymlyn Burrows (A Site of Special Scientific Interest)

The Annual Holiday visited Cambridgeshire and included a visit to The National Stud at Newmarket.
